Revenge of the Cows (bye bye chicken)

Remember a few years ago when we all got scared of SARS? And what kind of preparations we had to go through to avoid such a dreadful disease? Then how about the time when mad cow disease was all the rage? I remember all the hype that surrounded these diseases, but did it really affect us? All it did was stop people from buying meat and boosting the poultry and fish market, while intensifying medical checkups on people coming from infected areas. Did they have to get us all scared about these diseases? I highly doubt it was worth your average man’s time or effort. Now we have the avian flu commonly knows as the bird flu, which is closer to home and in my opinion blown up out of proportion. It’s okay to be scared, you can be scared all you want, but please keep your lousy predictions to yourself, for God’s sake 900,000! What kind of super computer did you use to predict half of the population infected? Yes, in a worst case scenario 900,000 people in Kuwait would be infected. But is it possible for 900,000 to get bird flu when only 218 (worldwide) contracted it since 1997? The only real threat right now is the mutation of the current H5N1 virus.
If more humans become infected over time, the likelihood also increases that humans, if concurrently infected with human and avian influenza strains, could serve as the “mixing vessel” for the emergence of a novel subtype with sufficient human genes to be easily transmitted from person to person. Such an event would mark the start of an influenza pandemic. (WHO, 2005)
Pandemics (a global epidemic) kill lots of people, with lots of people I mean half or more of a country’s population which brings us back to the Malthusian theory (a favorite theory of mine). Populations grow exponentially while resources increase linearly; therefore, the earth can not sustain us all. That’s why we have poverty, and Thomas Malthus advocates against giving out charity and such, how cold and cruel of him, right? Yeah maybe, but in truth it all comes down to the survival of the fittest. I know we’re not savages and it’s not the cave days anymore. But think about it, you and a stranger were stranded in the middle of a desert, you don’t know when you’ll be rescued, no source of water is close and you’re the only one with that water canteen, will you share it? Unless you got a death wish, I highly doubt it. A disaster of some sort has to occur to balance out the equation and keep us in check. Last year’s tsunami, Katrina, the Pakistan earthquake and now the bird flu all fit the equation. Anyways.. Maybe it’s another case of the boy that cried wolf… Maybe it’s THAT serious.. and maybe, just maybe “3asal il 3wayyid” would cure it Only time will tell.. useful links: World Health Organization's kick on bird flu - really scary CDC's general info on bird flu - alright FDA's standpoint on bird flu - most assuring Thomas Malthus freaky theory - if you're bored and have more time to waste

pre-futour activities...

when most are either asleep or watching tv.. some walk in their area.. others walk in this year's "hip/to be seen at" area.. many crowd the second ring road and gulf street with their cars, motorcycles and atvs.. others fly huge kites and remote controlled miniature airplanes in south surra which i find wickedly awesome..

the sunset as we're racing everyone to get back home before the prayer's call

p.s. it's not advisable to go there in a sedan

(i know for a fact that your parents never imposed any kind of curfew on you)
